Welcome Back Sophomores!!

Congratulations, you survived your freshmen year at SEA!  Sophomore year is very important on your path toward graduation.  You will further refine your career interests and goals, select courses that will prepare you to reach your goals, and you should continue to be involved in our community.  Academic excellence is always important and you should dedicate yourself to your studies throughout the year.  

There are several things you should keep in mind over the course of your second year at Southeast Academy High School.




* Get to know your school counselor. Stop by to say hello.
* Check the counseling website and your class page periodically.
* Keep improving your academics. Stay on top of your homework and see your teachers for extra help.
* Get to know your teachers!

* Set short and long term goals. Discuss your goals with your parent(s)/guardian and/or your school counselor.
* The PSAT will be offered in October at SEA. This test is designed for juniors, however, sophomores may
   take the PSAT for additional practice.  
* Get involved or stay involved! Work on building your college and/or career resume now.


Academic Preparation

  • Take A-G college preparatory classes and elective courses that meet the CSU's admission standards.
  • Earn "A"s and "B"s in all of your classes.
  • In October, register for the Practice SAT (PSAT), a practice exam for the SAT.
  • Update your UOSR High School Planning chart.
  • Invite your parents to Back-to-School Night.
  • Take advantage of after-school tutoring for academic assistance.
  • Inquire about scholarships at your career center and apply for them.
  • Discuss your college plans with your parents and begin saving money for the application and test fees.
  • Review your educational plan with your counselor and make sure it includes a challenging junior year.
  •  Focus on English and mathematics preparation to ensure college readiness.

College Exploration

  • Take a CSULB tour and take tours at other college campuses.
  • Conduct internet searches to narrow college choices.

Extracurricular Activities

  • Participate in enrichment programs and summer workshops at CSULB.
  • Sign up for clubs, organizations and/or sports.
  • Consider volunteering.
