Leadership Traits & Principles

To earn your “Dog Tags” you must memorize your Leadership Traits.  In addition you will earn 60 points towards your cutting score for promotion.

Leadership is one of the most important concepts cadets will learn. Southeast Academy Leadership Traits are proven guidelines that will enhance their ability to be effective leaders.
 

Fourteen Leadership Traits

BEARING:
Creating a favorable impression in carriage, appearance, and personal conduct at all times.
COURAGE:
The mental quality that recognizes fear of danger or criticism, but enables a man to proceed in the face of it with calmness and firmness.
DECISIVENESS: 
The ability to make decisions promptly and to announce them in a clear and forceful manner.
DEPENDABILITY:
The certainty of proper performance of duty.
ENDURANCE:
The mental and physical stamina measured by the ability to withstand pain, fatigue, stress and hardship
ENTHUSIASM:
The display of sincere interest and exuberance in the performance of duty.
INITIATIVE:
Taking action in the absence of orders.
INTEGRITY:
Uprightness of character, soundness of moral principles, and the quality of truthfulness and honesty.
JUDGEMENT :
The ability to weigh facts and possible solutions on which to base sound decisions.
JUSTICE:
Giving rewards and punishments according to the merits of the case in questions. The ability to administer a  
system of rewards and punishments, impartially and consistently.
KNOWLEDGE:
Understanding of a science or an art. The range of one's information including professional knowledge and an
understanding of your cadets.
LOYALTY:
The quality of faithfulness to country, Southeast Academy and one's seniors, subordinates and peers.
TACT:
The ability to deal with others without creating an offense.
UNSELFISHNESS:
 Avoidance of providing for one's comfort and personal advancement at the expense of others.
 
 

Leadership Principles

Be technically and tactically proficient.
Know yourself and seek self-improvement.
Know your cadets and look out for their welfare.
Keep your cadets informed.
Set the example.
Ensure the task is understood, supervised and accomplished.
Train your cadets as a team.
Make sound and timely decisions.
Develop a sense of responsibility among your subordinates.
Employ your team in accordance with its capabilities.
Seek responsibility and take responsibility for your actions.
